Do you ever draw a blank on someone’s name right after they introduce themselves? If so, you’re not alone. This used to happen to me all the time until I started using a few simple tricks to jog my memory.
Scroll down for 5 tips to help you remember the names of new people you meet at your next networking event!
Repeat their name out loud. When someone introduces themself, respond with: "Nice to meet you, [Name]!"Repeating it aloud helps lock it into your brain.
Link their name to something familiar. Associate their name with someone you know, a celebrity or a visual or rhyme. For example: “Rachel—like Rachel from Friends.”
Ask a name-related question. “Is that spelled with a K or a C?” Engaging with their name gives your brain extra exposure, and shows interest at the same time.
Use their name in conversation. For example, "So Lisa, what brings you to this event?" Using the name in context makes it stick.
Write it down. During the event, take a moment to jot down the name of interesting people you meet or ask them for a business card. After the event, connect with them on LinkedIn.
