"How can I create a more diverse network?"

Does your business circle look just like you? Think just like you? Act just like you? If so, it may be time to diversify your network...

When it comes to networking, creating connections with a diverse group of people of all backgrounds, ages, races, industries, genders, economic status and even geography can go a long way to uncovering your own blindspots and adding richness to your outlook.

Here are a few tips for creating a more diverse networking circle:

1.      Be proactive. Seek out groups and individuals who may be outside your regular networking circle.

2.      Be open-minded. We have much to learn from the rich experiences of others around us.

3.      Attend multicultural events and celebrations in your community.

4.      Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’ve learned that admitting what I don’t know goes a long way to building relationships.

5.      Ask questions. Instead of showing up ready to help, why not show up ready to learn?
